Defending Immigrant Rights 101:

Detention, Deportation and the Criminal Justice System

Since 1996, more than 1.5 million people have been deported and thousands of families have been separated

Collier County just signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Immigration for local police to act like immigration agents

In Florida there is a 77% increase in the number of immigrant arrests – the second highest in the country

There is $1.38 billion in the federal budget to detain immigrants with a capacity to hold 27,500 each day

This training will help the community learn more about the detention and deportation system and how to act if a community member is detained or facing deportation.  We will give an overview of deportation process, show you how to identify who is most at risk for immigration arrest and discuss ways to advocate, organize, act, and defend our communities and families.
