DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEGAL
HOTLINE Office Hours: 9:00 - 5:00
Monday - Friday The Domestic Violence Legal Statewide Hotline provides legal assistance on the telephone to victims of domestic violence in Florida. Callers dial the statewide domestic violence hotline and push Extension 3, and they are automatically connected to staff who will take initial information from the caller to be provided to the hotline attorney. The attorney is generally not available to talk immediately to callers. People are called back based on order of call and urgency of issues. An attorney is available to return calls to clients and to provide basic legal advice and referral to local legal and social service resources, including the client's local domestic violence center. The Hotline attorney cannot represent the clients in court or submit documents for them. Trained in both domestic violence and hotline skills, the attorney also works with domestic violence shelters throughout the state, ensuring the callers are referred to their local centers and explaining what services the centers can provide. Florida Legal Service provides the hotline service
through a contract with the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Funds for the
Hotline are provided pursuant to the STOP Violence Against Women Act, as administered by
the Florida Department of Children and Families. Other Resources: Florida
