Who Can Get Food Stamps in Florida (and how to get them)
This document was originally made available at
the statewide Public Benefits training in Tampa (April 2002), but has been revised to
reflect changes enacted into law in May 2002.
A
Guide to Florida Temporary Cash Assistance
This manual, written by Valory Greenfield and Cindy
Huddleston in Sep 2003, describes the new process for what used to be called WAGES.
Transitional
Benefits
This is a March 2000 seven page client education
booklet describing various types of transitional benefits which are available to former
participants in the WAGES (Florida's version of TANF) cash assistance program. The
transitional benefits described include education & training, R.I.T.A.s (retention
incentive training accounts), transportation, child care, Medicaid, and food stamps.
Work Issues for
Immigrants who Get Cash Assistance in Florida
This is a March 2000 nine page advocate education
booklet reviewing work issues for Florida immigrants getting WAGES cash assistance
(Florida's version of TANF). The issues discussed include: who must work in order to get
cash assistance; what work support services can immigrants get or not get;
non-discrimination and non-displacement protections available under law for immigrant cash
assistance "workers"; specific work activities of interest to immigrants
including the allowability of ESOL (English for speakers of other languages); hardship
time extensions for immigrants; LEP (limited English proficiency) advocacy opportunities;
and appeal rights.
Alien Eligibility for Public Benefits
To understand public
benefits eligibility for aliens, one must first understand that eligibility
is not simply a matter of having a particular immigration status.
